ISO 22000 Certification

Independent third-party ISO 22000 certification for organizations across the food chain. Show customers and retailers that your food safety management system is controlled, verified, and working.

The Standard

What Is ISO 22000?

ISO 22000:2018 is the international standard for food safety management systems. It combines hazard analysis and critical control point (HACCP) principles, prerequisite programs, and the management system structure used by ISO 9001, so food safety is planned, controlled, and continually improved.

It applies to any organization in the food chain, including producers, processors, ingredient suppliers, packaging manufacturers, storage and distribution companies, and food service. Certification confirms an independent auditor has evaluated your system in operation.

Why Certify

Why Organizations Get ISO 22000 Certified

Meet Buyer Requirements

Retailers, brand owners, and food service customers increasingly ask suppliers for a certified food safety management system.

Control Food Safety Hazards

A HACCP-based system with verified prerequisite programs reduces the risk of contamination, recalls, and customer complaints.

Run One System

ISO 22000 shares its structure with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, so food safety fits into the management system you already run.

  • Covers every link in the food chain, from ingredients to distribution
  • Built on HACCP principles that food regulators and customers already recognize
  • Integrates with ISO 9001 on a shared audit program
The Process

How ISO 22000 Certification Works

GMCS runs a defined, two-stage certification audit. You always know where you are in the process and what comes next.

1. Quote and applicationTell us your size, sites, and timeline. We scope the audit program and send a proposal.
2. Optional pre-assessmentA readiness audit that finds gaps before the certification audit. Recommended for first-time certifications.
3. Stage 1 auditReview of your documented food safety management system and confirmation you are ready for Stage 2.
4. Stage 2 auditThe certification audit: your system evaluated in operation against ISO 22000 requirements.
5. CertificationCertificate issued once any audit findings are closed.
6. Surveillance and recertificationAnnual surveillance audits maintain the certificate; recertification renews it at year three.
Cost

What Determines ISO 22000 Certification Cost

There is no one-size price. Your quote is scoped from audit time, which is driven by four factors. Organizations with fewer than 100 employees qualify for the GMCS Small Organization Program's discounted pricing.

Transfers

Already ISO 22000 Certified? Transfer to GMCS.

If your current certification body is slow to schedule, slow to answer, or priced for someone else's overhead, transfer your certificate to GMCS. Your certification cycle and surveillance schedule continue, and in most cases there is no repeat of Stage 1 and Stage 2.

FAQ

ISO 22000 Certification Questions

What is the difference between ISO 22000 and FSSC 22000?
ISO 22000 is the international food safety management standard. FSSC 22000 is a separate certification scheme that adds sector-specific prerequisite program requirements to ISO 22000. Check which one your customer requires before you request a quote.
Does ISO 22000 replace HACCP?
No. ISO 22000 includes HACCP principles and builds a full management system around them, adding prerequisite programs, communication, and continual improvement.
Does ISO 22000 certification satisfy food safety regulations?
Certification is voluntary and does not replace regulatory requirements or inspections. It does provide strong evidence that your hazards are identified and controlled.
How long does ISO 22000 certification take?
Timing depends on the maturity of your food safety system. Once your hazard analysis, prerequisite programs, and records are in operation, certification is a two-stage audit. GMCS scopes your timeline in the quote.
How much does ISO 22000 certification cost?
Cost is driven by organization size, number of sites, and the number of HACCP plans and processes in scope. GMCS maintains discounted pricing for organizations with fewer than 100 employees.
Does GMCS provide ISO 22000 consulting?
No. GMCS is an independent certification body. Certification body rules prohibit certifying a system we helped build, and that independence keeps your certificate credible with buyers.
