ISO/IEC 27001 Certification

Third-party ISO/IEC 27001 certification from an IAS-accredited certification body. Clear enterprise security reviews, answer vendor questionnaires once, and prove your information security management system to any customer.

The Standard

What Is ISO/IEC 27001?

ISO/IEC 27001:2022 is the international standard for information security management systems (ISMS). It defines how an organization identifies its information security risks and operates the controls that manage them, covering people, processes, and technology, from access control and encryption to supplier security and incident response.

Certification means an accredited, independent certification body has audited your ISMS in operation and confirmed it conforms to the standard. For buyers, it replaces pages of security questionnaire answers with one verifiable certificate.

Why Certify

Why Organizations Get ISO/IEC 27001 Certified

Pass Security Reviews

Enterprise procurement and vendor risk teams accept ISO/IEC 27001 as evidence of security posture, shortening deals that stall in review.

Win Data-Sensitive Work

Contracts touching customer data, government systems, or regulated records increasingly require certified information security management.

Manage Real Risk

A risk-driven ISMS with audited controls reduces breach likelihood and shows diligence if an incident happens.

  • Recognized worldwide through IAF multilateral recognition
  • Fits technology companies, MSPs, SaaS, and any organization handling sensitive data
  • Pairs with ISO 27701 (privacy) and ISO/IEC 20000-1 (IT service management) on the same management system structure
The Process

How ISO/IEC 27001 Certification Works

GMCS runs a defined, two-stage certification audit. You always know where you are in the process and what comes next.

1. Quote and applicationTell us your size, sites, and timeline. We scope the audit program and send a proposal.
2. Optional pre-assessmentA readiness audit that finds gaps before the certification audit. Recommended for first-time certifications.
3. Stage 1 auditReview of your documented ISMS and confirmation you are ready for Stage 2.
4. Stage 2 auditThe certification audit: your system evaluated in operation against ISO/IEC 27001 requirements.
5. CertificationCertificate issued on closure of findings, verifiable on IAF CertSearch.
6. Surveillance and recertificationAnnual surveillance audits maintain the certificate; recertification renews it at year three.

FAQ

ISO/IEC 27001 Certification Questions

Do we need ISO/IEC 27001 or SOC 2?
They answer different buyers. SOC 2 is a US-centric attestation report; ISO/IEC 27001 is an international certification recognized through the IAF. Many organizations serving both US and global customers hold both, and the control work overlaps heavily.
How long does ISO/IEC 27001 certification take?
Timing depends on the maturity of your ISMS. Once your risk assessment, controls, and documentation are in operation, certification is a two-stage audit, and many organizations complete it within a few months. GMCS scopes your timeline in the quote.
How much does ISO/IEC 27001 certification cost?
Cost is driven by organization size, number of sites, and the complexity of your systems and data flows. GMCS maintains discounted pricing for organizations with fewer than 100 employees. Request a quote for scoped pricing.
How long is an ISO/IEC 27001 certificate valid?
Three years, maintained by annual surveillance audits, followed by a recertification audit at the end of the cycle.
Can we transfer our existing ISO/IEC 27001 certificate to GMCS?
Yes. An existing accredited certificate can transfer to GMCS without restarting your certification cycle. Your surveillance schedule continues uninterrupted.
Does GMCS provide ISO/IEC 27001 consulting?
No. GMCS is an independent certification body. Accreditation rules prohibit certifying a system we helped build, and that independence is what keeps your certificate credible with customers and auditors.
